IF YOU BUT KNEW, by RENE FRANCOIS ARMAND PRUDHOMME Poet's Biography First Line: If you but knew the tears that fall Last Line: And ne'er depart. Alternate Author Name(s): Sully-prudhomme Subject(s): Love - Unrequited | ||||||||
IF YOU but knew the tears that fall For life unloved and fireside drear, Perhaps, before my lonely hall, You would pass near. If you but knew your power to thrill My drooping soul by one pure glance. One look across my window-sill You'd cast perchance. If you but knew what soothing balm One heart can on another pour, Would you not sit -- a sister calm -- Beside my door? And if you knew I loved you well, And loved you too with all my heart, You'd come to me, with me to dwell, And ne'er depart. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON TUTTO E SCIOLTO by JAMES JOYCE APPULDURCOMBE PARK by AMY LOWELL TALE OF THE MAYOR'S SON by GLYN MAXWELL ELEGY FOR AN ENEMY by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET ESSAY ON WHAT I THINK ABOUT MOST by ANNE CARSON ALONE by RENE FRANCOIS ARMAND PRUDHOMME AU BORD DE DEAU by RENE FRANCOIS ARMAND PRUDHOMME BEFORE THE APOLLO OF THE BELVEDERE by RENE FRANCOIS ARMAND PRUDHOMME |
