AIR MAIL, by ANNA HAWKS PUTNAM First Line: I was one with space Last Line: Expecting words from a friend. Subject(s): Letters | ||||||||
I was one with space. The long horizon's rim Was brushed with flaming clouds Like the wings of a Seraphim. I was one with vastness, The field of limitless blue, Alone with cosmic wonder, With sky and atom of dew. When up toward heaven was lifted The crunching engine that brings Our lettered lines -- they're speeding On time, and shod with wings! And space became a mountain The pilot must ascend, And I was one with time Expecting words from a friend. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOVE LETTER FROM AN IMPOSSIBLE LAND by WILLIAM MEREDITH ALL SHE WROTE by HARRYETTE MULLEN LETTER TO MAXINE SULLIVAN by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO SAM HAMILL: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 1 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE AFTERLIFE: LETTER TO STEPHEN DOBYNS: 2 by HAYDEN CARRUTH LETTER TO MOTHER by JOHN CIARDI THE FORSAKEN MERMAN by MATTHEW ARNOLD |
