GHOST-HOUSE, by EMILY RANDLE First Line: Shadows of coolness haunt this hilltop home Last Line: How shall this silentness be comforted? Subject(s): Haunted Houses | ||||||||
Shadows of coolness haunt this hilltop home, Scarred is the shape of grace that stalks around, Defeat its visioned destiny -- no sound -- The wraith of broken-love in haste to roam At intervals returns to stir the loam About the shrubbery roots so closely bound; Leaves of compassion flutter to the ground To soften grief with autumn's witching chrome. Pale petals drift of hopeless cyclamen Where hid that vow, "My love shall never die" -- I wonder if today your artistry Could trace that frailty with a potent pen; Filtered through sorrow, all its laughter dead, How shall this silentness be comforted? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HAUNTED HOUSE by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON SOUTHERN MANSION by ARNA BONTEMPS THE HAUNTED PALACE by EDGAR ALLAN POE A HEART-HAUNTED HOME by JANE BARLOW THE HAUNTED HOUSE by ABBIE FARWELL BROWN THE HAUNTED HOUSE by MADISON JULIUS CAWEIN HAUNTED VILLAGE by SARAH NORCLIFFE CLEGHORN HAUNTED by ANNA BUNSTON DE BARY |
