SATIETY, by BARBARA BROOKE RAWLINS First Line: I am sated with summer, who could not bear Last Line: Ice and rain and snow and wind. | |||
I am sated with summer, who could not bear The whimper of snow on the winter air; Ah, thought I, for one green bough, The smell of box, with the hot sun on it, And the rich red clay, churned from the slough, With the patter of little pigs' feet upon it; Wheat fields yellow, and overhead The leaves turned white at the thunder's tread; And clover, acres of scented pink, With rain for the throated corn to drink. Now all this peace has come to pass: The shadows like feathers lie on the grass, And I'd be glad to wake and find Ice and rain and snow and wind. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RETREAT by BARBARA BROOKE RAWLINS SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: MRS.
