SANDPIPERS IN THE MIST, by IONE MORRISON RIDER First Line: Waves weave in mystery around our feet Last Line: While fringed waves flood up and down the beach. Subject(s): Sandpipers | ||||||||
Waves weave in mystery around our feet, Swirling in succession on the dim gray strand From the vast immutable and unillumined sea. White glimmers suddenly, flowering from gray, Achieving no more than a dream of white When all is gray again, We move in wonder slowly down the strand. Once more the vision is of white Lifting itself on wings that beat Into the unlit air To drift beyond like petals down a wind -- And a cloud of slender birds descends, Blending anew with the dim gray strand While fringed waves flood up and down the beach. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE SANDPIPER by CELIA LEIGHTON THAXTER SANDPIPERS by HELEN MERRILL EGERTON THE SANDPIPER by MARY HEFFERAN ODE TO A PAIR OF SANDPIPERS by MARCUS S.
