GROWTH, by GRACE ROREM ROBBINS First Line: Some times there are when forces crush and pull Last Line: Through love, through willing sacrifice, or both. Subject(s): Growth | ||||||||
Some times there are when forces crush and pull To break the atom, or the shell encasing; The time has struck, maturity is full, Life must into a higher form be racing; The particles that were have served their day But seem to grieve, in letting go their part; Yet earth, all things within it, must give way To onward rushing destiny's sly art. Instinctively we grope the nearest tread With faces set the way which we would go; Confused, exhausted, drooping, fall back dead; All things but truth, direct, must be laid low; The law of every living thing is growth Through love, through willing sacrifice, or both. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...GRATITUDE TO OLD TEACHERS by ROBERT BLY WHEN I WAS TWENTY-SIX by ROBERT BLY SECOND BOOK OF ODES: 3.
