I LOVE bright things like candlelights Upon a window ledge, And beds of scarlet tulips Aflame beneath a hedge, A gypsy campfire glowing, The yellow harvest moon, And fireflies in a dusky gloam When night has come too soon, A maple tree that's all ablaze, Ships' lanterns far at sea, A burning star that leaves the sky A trail of fire for me. But if all these were offered me, I know I'd choose instead To light my heart through darksome days A single shining head. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE STUDY OF HAPPINESS by KENNETH KOCH SO MUCH HAPPINESS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CROWD CONDITIONS by JOHN ASHBERY I WILL NOT BE CLAIMED by MARVIN BELL THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#21): 1.
