In time God decrees us a boon of sweet rest, For earth's heavy labors are done. In fireside warmth and in soul-healing peace We're soothed, for a respite is won. Contentment now reigns till our hour is fulfilled, Vague longings are focussed in trust. The tools that we wielded with vigor in youth Are dulled and are covered with dust. We wait, for the sunrise will bring us new light New glory will shine in new skies. New energy's coming, new powers, new tools, -- For God-given vigor ne'er dies! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER SUNDAY by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE READER OF THE SENTENCES by NORMAN DUBIE RESURRECTION UPDATE by JAMES GALVIN UNHOLY SONNET: 20 by MARK JARMAN ON RISING FROM THE DEAD by CAROLYN KIZER A GUARD OF THE SEPULCHER by EDWIN MARKHAM THE RESURRECTION by JONATHAN HENDERSON BROOKS A SOUL SO SUNNY by ETHEL BLACKWELL ROBINSON THE COMPLAINT OF CHAUCER TO HIS EMPTY PURSE by GEOFFREY CHAUCER |
