SILHOUETTES, by ALICE ROOP First Line: The day is done Last Line: Of remaining rays of hope. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | ||||||||
The day is done. The sun sinks in the west, With oncoming night Revealing in outline strong and dark, Hilltop, bush, and tree, Each in true perspective, Clearcut and real, Illuminating their black silhouettes Along the horizon, Against the last lingering radiance Of a low-lying strip of crimson sky. Life's day is over. As inevitably it goes In that receding light, Tragedies of fate, stark and grim, Rimmed with doubt and despair, Stand out in sharp relief Against the shining after-glow Of remaining rays of hope. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE |
