I had not thought until today, When I glimpsed your slippers as they lay Familiarly upon the floor, How on some unexpected day, If I should outlive you, I may Feel when you are here no more. Familiar trend of toe and heel -- Faded, thread-bare -- made me feel The utter sadness of that day -- How, wild, bereft, I'd clasp them tight, Beseeching heaven that I might Have you once more in the old way. Oh precious one, beyond all dear, Your worn old slippers make me know How much you mean right now -- right here, Why have I never told you so? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN SANDAL by DENISE LEVERTOV FOR AL-TAYIB SALIH by KHALED MATTAWA SNEAKERS by E.
