ELEGY, by
First Line: You are more beautiful than nocturnes played
Last Line: That wears a sacredness since he has gone.

YOU are more beautiful than nocturnes played
Beneath the silver shadowing of night;
More gorgeous than wild plum when it has swayed
Against the moon and caught her shining white.

You are more fragile than a morning mist
Above the trembling fingers of a stream.
You are more silent than the amethyst
On sunset-capped syringas in a dream.

You are more beautiful than stencilling,
Along Montana gumbo, by the dawn;
More treasured than a lover's murmuring
That wears a sacredness since he has gone.
