MY HOUSE, by LOUIS C. ROSENSTEIN First Line: I live all alone in a house at the end of the block Last Line: And to help me forget sorrow and help me endure life, just a little bit longer. Subject(s): Absence; Separation; Isolation | ||||||||
I live all alone in a house at the end of the block; I have no father or mother, brother nor sister -- only a clock. The handwriting on the walls of my home tells of sorrow, grief, utter despair and loneliness, The dismal days and weeks pass by slowly, with a sigh, but nary a visitor do I have; The days are long with much sadness, and there is much to fear. But I courageously battle on and on with life, And its bitter strife, knowing God is ever near. On the barren walls of the house I've hung pictures, They are just dear little things to treasure -- And to help me forget sorrow and help me endure life, just a little bit longer. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE EVENING OF THE MIND by DONALD JUSTICE CHRISTMAS AWAY FROM HOME by JANE KENYON THE PROBLEM by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES WHEN A WOMAN LOVES A MAN by DAVID LEHMAN THIS UNMENTIONABLE FEELING by DAVID LEHMAN ON A YOUNG LADY'S SIXTH ANNIVERSARY by KATHERINE MANSFIELD |
