AWAKE THOU THAT SLEEPEST, by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: The night is far spent, the day is at hand Last Line: The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Alternate Author Name(s): Alleyne, Ellen; Rossetti, Christina | ||||||||
THE night is far spent, the day is at hand: Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, And let us put on the armour of light. Night for the dead in their stiffness and starkness! Day for the living who mount in their might Out of their graves to the beautiful land. Far, far away lies the beautiful land: Mount on wide wings of exceeding desire, Mount, look not back, mount to life and to light, Mount by the gleam of your lamps all on fire Up from the dead men and up from the night. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ITALIA, IO TI SALUTO!' by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI THE HEART KNOWETH ITS OWN BITTERNESS' (2) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A BED OF FORGET-ME-NOTS by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A BETTER RESURRECTION by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A BIRTHDAY by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A CHRISTMAS CAROL (1) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A CHRISTMAS CAROL (2) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A DIRGE by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A LIFE'S PARALLELS by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI A PAUSE by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
