SONNET, by ERON DUNBAR ROWLAND First Line: Dear heart, how often did we speak of this Last Line: The hardihood and courage to go on. Subject(s): Hope; Optimism | ||||||||
Dear heart, how often did we speak of this: That we should one day come to a fair place Where, after all the journey's heat and stress We had endured, we should find rest and peace; How eagerly we struck out on the road Gathering posies as we traveled on, Grieving, at times, to see how bruised and hard Our hands and feet against the rocks had grown. And now that we must see to pick our way, And fearful of the coming on of night, Finding our pathway stonier each day With nowhere still a place to rest in sight, Let us be thankful all that we have won The hardihood and courage to go on. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SONNET: 9.
