There are beautiful walks in the garden of life,
Where the sweetest of rose-passions grow, --
But there's a higher plane, past passion and pain,
Where lilies grow, -- row upon row!
There is joy that is pain in the rose-scented walks,
You reach wildly, -- and would hold them forever; --
But one stroll 'mid the lilies, where only the soul talks,
And the rose-path -- cannot hold you -- no, never!
