RED OLEANDERS, by LYNN RUSSELL First Line: I wandered down a quiet, sandy lane Last Line: Had shared with me a joyous episode. Subject(s): Oleanders | ||||||||
I wandered down a quiet, sandy lane As lazy shadows crept across the plain, And while I strolled beneath the Autumn skies I reached a place which brought me glad surprise. Before my eyes I saw a winsome band Of blushing maidens rising from the sand And casting modest glances all around As Gulf winds kissed their lips, then danced and clowned. My heart sang praise because a friendly earth Had given me a glimpse of Autumn's mirth And blood-red oleanders by the road Had shared with me a joyous episode. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OLEANDER GROVE by MARTHA COWELL CALLOWAY HOW ABUNDANT IS THE SPRING by STEPHEN SHU-NING LIU OLEANDER by LORETTA RANDALL SHARP A FLORIDA AWAKENING by LYNN RUSSELL ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD OLD MAN by JEAN STARR UNTERMEYER THE DEATH OF SLAVERY by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT CHAUCERS WORDES UNTO ADAM, HIS OWN SCRIVEYN by GEOFFREY CHAUCER |
