From dawn to night, to dawn; a chain
From age to age, though death be rife
To sap its roots: in vain; in vain!
For God his lips and breath has brushed
On tree and beast, on rock and man;
Though death may snare, yet it is crushed:
And life drives on -- span yet on span.
