FARM NIGHT, by SANDS-ROUX First Line: Now, silence resting on the silvered hill Last Line: A thought which has a word that all may learn. Subject(s): Farm Life; Silence; Agriculture; Farmers | ||||||||
Now, silence resting on the silvered hill, Has dropped a velvet mantle in the field, Soft and black, it's lying very still Across the valley, which is half concealed. And even rain must tiptoe on the grass, It fearing lest it wake the sleeping night The wind is shut outside, it cannot pass, Only the step of silence has this right. But nearer, nearer creeps the little rain In and out the lilacs and the eaves It's seeking all its secret joys again. With silence, now, contentedly one leaves A bell that has no footstep in the fern -- A thought which has a word that all may learn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KICKING THE LEAVES by DONALD HALL THE FARMER'S BOY: WINTER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: SUMMER by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD THE FAIRY CHILD by JOHN ANSTER |
