THE LIGHT, by MARJORIE A. SCHRIER First Line: Firm on a rock the lighthouse stands Last Line: Wherever you choose to roam. Subject(s): Lighthouses; Sea; Ships & Shipping; Ocean | ||||||||
Firm on a rock the lighthouse stands, Amid the white sea foam; Flashing its message to passing ships Guiding them safely home. The keeper, so brave, his vigil keeps, Through the long dark hours of night; Though seldom he sees the ships that are saved By the golden beams of the light. We can make a light of our life, if we will, Guiding others along the road; Lending a hand to those who are weak, Sharing each other's load. Many a lonely sorrowing heart Gains strength by the clasp of hands; A tender smile or a kindly word From someone who understands. How often the good of your word and deed Helps others, may never be known; Let your life be a light to your fellowmen, Wherever you choose to roam. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS MY MOUNTAIN HOME by MARJORIE A.
