TO ---, by JULIA H. SCOTT First Line: Lovely thou art! Ay, lovely Last Line: Thine angel-gifted eye! Alternate Author Name(s): Kinney, Julia | |||
LOVELY thou art! ay, lovely In spirit and in form; A sunbeam glancing o'er life's tears, A rainbow through the storm; A snow-drop 'mid earth's darker hues, Unwarm'd by flattery's breath, A harp-tone flung from cherub hands, Wringing out joy from death. Lovely thou art, ay, lovely; And sorrow, shared with thee, As if magician changed, becomes A pleasure unto me. Life's sky, though clothed with tempest-clouds, Grows bright when thou art nigh; And tears e'er turn to smiles beneath Thine angel-gifted eye! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COUNSEIL TO A BACHELER by MARIANNE MOORE GOLD COAST CUSTOMS by EDITH SITWELL TO A LITTLE INVISIBLE BEING WHO IS EXPECTED SOON TO BECOME VISIBLE by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD THE BLIND BOY by COLLEY CIBBER A HYMN; AFTER READING 'LEAD, KINDLY LIGHT' by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR |
