NIGHT AND SHADOWS, by EMMA THOMAS SCOVILLE First Line: But yesterday I watched the shadows play Last Line: If I remember morning speeds the night. Subject(s): Light; Moon; Night; Shadows; Bedtime | ||||||||
But yesterday I watched the shadows play Across the golden fields. Soft clouds went by With lazy grace; they dappled dreary-gray The sunny hills, and hid the tender sky. Last night the moon chased shadows through the trees; They quivered as they lay upon the ground, And eerie whispers ran along the breeze Where crimson autumn once the summer crowned. I found the blue and gold in yesterday. Today dark shadows drift across my sky And life flows on ... clouds leave my sky dull gray, And listening I hear the night-wind sigh How well for me when shadows dim my light, If I remember MORNING speeds the NIGHT. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN A PURPLE HEART BADGE by EMMA THOMAS SCOVILLE |
