A DAY DREAM, by NELLY MILLER SEELY First Line: A birch tree stands in graceful beauty Last Line: Yes -- and for the robins to come each year. Subject(s): Imagination; Fancy | ||||||||
A birch tree stands in graceful beauty Dressed in velvety bark of white The sun shining through its leaves As they flutter -- now dark, then white. Its branches wave as so many plumes As the wind tosses them around, Moving in graceful rhythm, Some almost touching the ground. Robins built their nest in its branches With the advent of early spring; A beautiful home for the wee little ones Until they were strong of wing. The tiny twigs and leaves, as they wave Between me and the sky so blue, Appear intricate as embroidery or fine lace Such as the fairies might do. One could imagine such trees in heaven With angels hovering near; I long for a home surrounded with birch trees, Yes -- and for the robins to come each year. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE IMAGINED COPPERHEAD by ANDREW HUDGINS A SICK CHILD by RANDALL JARRELL IMAGINARY TROUBLE by JOHN KENDRICK BANGS EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV ON THE MEETING OF GARCIA LORCA AND HART CRANE by PHILIP LEVINE |
