THE FIRST FROST, by EDITH H. SHANK First Line: The world has changed her dress Last Line: Has paid the modiste's frightful fee. Subject(s): Frost; Winter | ||||||||
The World has changed her dress, She's garbed in silv'ry white; Filmy, gauzy, lovely thing, -- She donned it in the night. The first fall frost is on the ground, And silver glitters all around. The World has changed her dress From one of warmest brown, To preen herself in white, A queenly, showy gown. But when she donned the lovely dress, The flowers bowed in deep distress. The World has changed her dress To one of royal lace; Chilly in majestic mien, She stands with regal grace. But plant life all around, we see, Has paid the modiste's frightful fee. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING EAST IN THE WINTER by JOHN HOLLANDER WINTER DISTANCES by FANNY HOWE WINTER FORECAST by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN AT WINTER'S EDGE by JUDY JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 34 by JAMES JOYCE |
