At a Fourth of July "pow-wow" celebration I watched an Indian's peculiar gyration; His beads and feathers and primitive play Brought visions of an earlier day. A few days later the self-same Indian I had seen before Was peddling blue-berries at my door; What a change was wrought by his sombre clothes and occupation! It seemed to me a strange transition from savagery to civilization. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE OLD INDIAN by ARTHUR STANLEY BOURINOT SCHOLARLY PROCEDURE by JOSEPHINE MILES ONE LAST DRAW OF THE PIPE by PAUL MULDOON THE INDIANS ON ALCATRAZ by PAUL MULDOON PARAGRAPHS: 9 by HAYDEN CARRUTH THEY ACCUSE ME OF NOT TALKING by HAYDEN CARRUTH AMERICAN INDIAN ART: FORM AND TRADITION by DIANE DI PRIMA SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: FLETCHER MCGEE by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
