COLORS IN A SLUMBERING STATE (TO K.Y.), by HARRIS B. SHEPHERD First Line: These colors, red and blue Last Line: These sleeping colors, blue, or green, or red. Subject(s): Colors | ||||||||
These colors, red and blue, Yellow, green, black and white; Are factors, if the hand be true To bring a rare delight! Dainty shades that slumber here, Oh mix them with your tears -- Of sadness, or of gladness, of great cheer A vibrant, vital challenge to all years. So man may mark the glory of your time -- The splendor of the world wherein you stray, That they may sing more sweetly than a rhyme The wonders and the beauty of a day. There lurks a sunrise such as never yet Has dawned -- grass so green is seldom spread; Oh waken them, too long in slumber set These sleeping colors, blue, or green, or red. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COLORS by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET VARIATION ON A SENTENCE by LOUISE BOGAN 7 A.M., A MAN AND A WOMAN by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE LOVE BIT by JOEL OPPENHEIMER THE KING'S THRESHOLD by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS |
