SACRISTY, by MAY GIBSON SHERBAKOFF First Line: I must go to the woods at break of april Last Line: We'll yet find solace in her healing tears. Subject(s): April; Forests; Woods | ||||||||
I must go to the woods at break of April Where hills are heaven-deep with dogwood snow, Where pallid tips of sassafras are greening, Where cloistered yellow trillium tapers glow. With ears attuned to hear sweet April's singing, And finger-urge to bruise the heart-leaf's sheen, Pain that autumn knew will cease its stinging, Winter-nurtured grief will grow less keen. Now you have gone where every month is April; I left to count the waste of bitter years; In some dim niche of April's cool cathedral, We'll yet find solace in her healing tears. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PRINCESS WAKES IN THE WOOD by RANDALL JARRELL CHAMBER MUSIC: 20 by JAMES JOYCE ADVICE TO A FOREST by MAXWELL BODENHEIM A SOUTH CAROLINA FOREST by AMY LOWELL JOY IN THE WOODS by CLAUDE MCKAY IN BLACKWATER WOODS by MARY OLIVER THE PLACE I WANT TO GET BACK TO by MARY OLIVER THEN AND NOW by CECIL DAY LEWIS |
