The thought of you like tom-toms Beats in my brain night and day . . . No escape from this distraction, Its relentless, maddening sway! What though I seek solitude, crowds, Temporary submersion in gracious manner, Imbibing human frescos to dim my senses . . . Through the mazes thoughts of you clamor, An army before the bastile of my heart. Yet I must stay their insurrection Lest they discover their cause in vain, That which they seek not in my possession! The thought of you like tom-toms Beats in my brain night and day . . .
