INTROVERT, by BENJAMIN SIMMONS First Line: My mind is a swamp Last Line: O disinfecting thought! Subject(s): Thought; Thinking | ||||||||
My mind is a swamp From which come steaming vapors; Some bear the stench of muck, And nearly overcome me. Some poison my body with mean thinking. Some burn my nostrils with hatred for life. Others make me fear I am insane. Some hiss and bubble with remembrances That chill me to the marrow. Others, escaping, deposit crystals Foul smelling of the past. But now and then A beautiful bubble emerges at the surface Forgiveness for an enemy, Love for a child, A common kindness, unhesitatingly done And therewith the swamp is purged, As chlorin purges water.
