The Massaliots would turn from where they stood Along the waterfront, to see him pass. Ever, the Lion Gulf burned blue as glass; The Judas trees yet budded, red as blood. Green-robed, bearded sea captains, waiting flood Of tide, dark sailormen who sought some lass, Wine merchants, changing cask for coin of brass, Muttered: "Artemis, save! He bodes no good -- "This Roman sent by Caesar from the Jews "To rule Massalia. Heard you Grecian lad "Swear by his gods 'tis told in every stews, "Judea to Britain, that the man is mad? "Look!
