I LOVE A STORM, by GRACE TURNER SMITH First Line: I love a storm, yes, I, who all my life Last Line: And bids faint hearts have courage and be strong. Subject(s): Storms | ||||||||
I love a storm, yes, I, who all my life Have courted harmony, sought quietude; Who cringe at every cruel word and rude, Avoid unpleasantness, hate brawl and strife And all harsh scenes with noise and discord rife. Yet awed, I unafraid, exultant stand And view with ecstasy the storm-god's hand That devastates and spills with ruthless knife. Some primal impulse answers to the storm; My spirit welcomes in the threatening air The conquering force it lacks but fain would share. In elemental strength it sees the form Of God, who glories in the conqueror's song And bids faint hearts have courage and be strong. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STORM AT HOPTIME by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN THERE IS A SOLEMN WIND TONIGHT by KATHERINE MANSFIELD DEWEY AND DANCER by JOSEPHINE MILES MICHAEL IS AFRAID OF THE STORM by GWENDOLYN BROOKS BREACHING THE ROCK by MADELINE DEFREES THE CLOUDS ABOVE THE OCEAN by STEPHEN DOBYNS OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE TREMENDOUS WIND AND RAIN by ANSELM HOLLO BATTLE OF THE BALTIC by THOMAS CAMPBELL A HYMN [TO THE NAME AND] IN HONOR OF SAINT TERESA by RICHARD CRASHAW |
