PRAYER TO THE SPIRIT OF AUTUMN, by AMEY SMYTH First Line: Unearthly radiance of the autumn hills Last Line: To keep this vision that I thought was lost! Subject(s): Autumn; Seasons; Fall | ||||||||
Unearthly radiance of the autumn hills, Long have I sought you, as one seeks a flame, Knowing your presence but the unspoken name Born of all beauty that inspires and thrills; Following your crimson fire that slow distills From scarlet maple to the oak's deep stain, Of your rich splendor I have drunk again, Seeing you golden where the sunshine spills. This is my secret: Forest, touched with frost, You have at last restored my borrowed key That opens gates long closed; your heights are mine, Your wind and sun and clouds! I taste your wine, Given to all those who thirst! Then grant to me To keep this vision that I thought was lost! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN |
