Dear Master, help me along life's way, Help me to travel straight each day, Being careful of the words I say, And be near when evening comes. Dear Master, I am often weary and sad, 'Tis then, your words have made me glad; And I'm thankful Thy promise I have had, Dear Master when evening comes. Dear Master, this life will soon be o'er, The boatman will row me to the other shore, Life's day here I'll know no more, So be Thou near when evening comes. Dear Master, as I enter my new home Where sadness and sorrow can never come Safe at last, no more to roam, You, always near, when evening comes! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE BUT NOT TO ME by SARA TEASDALE |
