NUDITIES, by ANDRE SPIRE First Line: You said: / I wish to be your comrade Last Line: Tear out your voice! Subject(s): Nudity; Women; Nakedness | ||||||||
The hair is a nudity ... Talmud You said: I wish to be your comrade. I wish to come into your room and you be undisturbed; We shall talk through long evenings, We shall join in thought of our brethren, the down-trodden; Through the world we shall seek a land where they may rest. But let me not see your eyes glisten, Nor the fiery veins of your brow distend, For I am your equal, I am not your prey. Look, my garments are modest, they are almost plain; You cannot see the widening of my neck. And I answered: Woman, you are nude. The hair of your neck is cool as a spring-filled cup; Where it droops behind, it rises and falls like a breast; Your frontlets are wanton as a mountain herd: Cut off your hair! Woman, you are nude. On our open book there rest your naked hands; Your hands, the artful ends of your body, Your unjeweled hands, that soon will reach for mine: Strike of your hands! Woman, you are nude. Your lilting voice rises from your bosom; Your voice, your breath, the very warmth of your flesh, That spreads upon me, seeps into my flesh: Tear out your voice! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN THE LOCKER ROOM by MADELINE DEFREES FRESCOES FOR MR.
