THE SEDGES, by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY Poet's Biography First Line: I whispered my great sorrow Last Line: Across the water blows. Alternate Author Name(s): O'sullivan, Seumas | |||
I whispered my great sorrow To every listening sedge; And they bent, bowed with my sorrow, Down to the water's edge. But she stands and laughs lightly To see me sorrow so, Like the light winds that laughing Across the water go. If I could tell the bright ones That quiet-hearted move, They would bend down like the sedges With the sorrow of love. But she stands laughing lightly, Who all my sorrow knows, Like the little wind that laughing Across the water blows. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ENVY by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY LULLABY by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY PRAISE by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY THE GREY DUSK by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY THE OTHERS by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY THE STARLING LAKE by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY THE TWILIGHT PEOPLE by JAMES SULLIVAN STARKEY PLEASURE MIXED WITH PAIN by THOMAS WYATT THE HURRICANE by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT EXILE OF ERIN by THOMAS CAMPBELL |
