TO THE VIOLET, by JOHN BANISTER TABB Poet's Biography First Line: Sweet violet, who knows Last Line: Each bank of sundering death. Alternate Author Name(s): Father Tabb Subject(s): Flowers; Violets | ||||||||
SWEET violet, who knows From whence thy fragrance flows Or whither hence it goes? A pious pilgrim here To Winter's sepulchre Thou comest year by year Alert with balmier store Than Magdalen of yore To Love's anointing bore. Methinks that thou hast been So oft the go-between 'Twixt sight and things unseen That with thy wafted breath Alternate echoeth Each bank of sundering Death. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HEAVY VIOLETS by BARBARA GUEST THE YELLOW VIOLET by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT WAR IS KIND: 23 by STEPHEN CRANE SONNET by ALICE RUTH MOORE DUNBAR-NELSON HOW VIOLETS CAME BLUE by ROBERT HERRICK UNDER THE VIOLETS by OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES THE FADED VIOLET by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH ANONYMOUS by JOHN BANISTER TABB |
