SOUTH BY WEST: SOUTHWEST PLAINS, by
First Line: Baked dry
Last Line: In placid waiting.
Subject(s): Prairies; Plains

Baked dry
and ever shifting --
no remnant of the verdant growth
her sign of joyful living.
Long uncaressed by heaven's showers
she spreads her empty hollow hands
in placid waiting.
