First Line: I had a friend who went away
Last Line: How far he is away!
Subject(s): Friendship

I HAD a friend who went away
Over the distant sea,
But hill and tide can never hide
His gentle face from me.

I had a friend -- he broke my heart,
Yet every shining day
We meet, but nevermore clasp hands. . .
How far he is away!
