HOTEL VERANDA, by LUCIA TRENT First Line: She hears their needles clicking Last Line: Where the alien corn is sere. Alternate Author Name(s): Cheyney, Mrs. Ralph; Glass, Mrs. Ernest | |||
She hears their needles clicking; They rock their portly chairs; Their eyes are daggers piercing The armor that she wears. Their tongues may wag of trifles; Their hearts grow bleak and tense As they try in vain to shatter The walls of her defense: The joy she has in living To dreaming's clarion horn And the pride she takes in the father Of children she has borne. Though pioneering ardor Defies their clannish sneer, She is a Ruth enduring Where the alien corn is sere. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BREED, WOMEN, BREED by LUCIA TRENT PARADE THE NARROW TURRETS by LUCIA TRENT SHINING COURAGE by LUCIA TRENT TEN YEARS AFTER by LUCIA TRENT |
