YOUR LOVE, by EVA SMITH TURNER First Line: Your love was but a thread of gossamer Last Line: The sodden weight of my great love grown cold! Subject(s): Love | |||
Your love was but a thread of gossamer That glistened in the sunshine of a smile, And broken by the first ill wind astir Clung limply to me for a little while; And then, like vanities that have no place Within the lives of those whose hearts are true, It rode the vagrant breeze far into space And carried with it all my love for you. I marvel that so frail a thing could hold The sodden weight of my great love grown cold! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD THE NEW HIGHWAY by EVA SMITH TURNER |
