Some ever quiet thing
I would that I could be,
A window through whose opening
You look upon the sea --

Some inanimate bit
You cherish day by day,
Having a constant need of it
Forever in your way.

A song that makes you glad,
A picture on your wall,
Some unfeeling thing that had
No need of you at all.
