AGAIN I SEE HER FACE, by ETTA MAY VAN TASSEL First Line: Again I see her face among the crowd Last Line: In sudden sweetness on a stranger's face! Subject(s): Faces; Women | ||||||||
Again I see her face among the crowd, The titled nose, the gay and changing eyes, And I am moved to call, to cry aloud So great the likeness, painful my surprise. It isn't she, nor yet her slender ghost, No magic brings her, vital, from the dead; But someone smiles within the hurrying host And there is warmth I thought forever fled. My heart is lightened, glad there should remain Of such bright beauty some essential trace, That thieving Death his treasure took in vain; That all she was and all her special grace Now lives and moves again, is mirrored plain In sudden sweetness on a stranger's face! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ARISTOTLE TO PHYLLIS by JOHN HOLLANDER A WOMAN'S DELUSION by SUSAN HOWE JULIA TUTWILER STATE PRISON FOR WOMEN by ANDREW HUDGINS THE WOMEN ON CYTHAERON by ROBINSON JEFFERS TOMORROW by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD LADIES FOR DINNER, SAIPAN by KENNETH KOCH GOODBYE TO TOLERANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV THE GRINDSTONE by ROBERT FROST TO LADY ANNE HAMILTON by WILLIAM ROBERT SPENCER SONNETS FROM SERIES RELATING TO EDGAR ALLEN POE: 1 by SARAH HELEN POWER WHITMAN |
