THESE HAVE GONE DOWN, by PAULA S. VOGELSANG Last Line: They have their life in him, they are not lost! Subject(s): Pain; Suffering; Misery | ||||||||
These have gone down in unremembered time, -- The still small offerings of hearts that knew Rejection, yet would sooner cease to beat Than cease to give as was their wont to do. The sacrifices where no eye has been A witness to the glory of the deed, Nor eased the burden of too silent pain With sympathy in answer to the need. And noble thoughts unshared, inspired words That perished with the breath that failed to give Them utterance; and likewise all the dreams That vanished ere they could be made to live. These have gone down in unremembered time, Unknown, unseen, unshared, a silent host; But marching close to man's immortal soul, They have their life in him, they are not lost! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PARTHENOPHIL AND PARTHENOPHE: MADRIGAL 14 by BARNABE BARNES SONNETS IN SHADOWS: 1 by ARLO BATES IN PRAISE OF PAIN by HEATHER MCHUGH THE SYMPATIZERS by JOSEPHINE MILES LEEK STREET by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR POOR DEVIL! by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET |
