FOR FUTURE SOWING, by BLANCHE LEA WALDEN First Line: The cruel hand of frost has laid a blight Last Line: For well we know will come another spring! Subject(s): Spring | ||||||||
The cruel hand of Frost has laid a blight Upon the zinnias in our garden space, And purple asters droop in tattered lace Beside the fence, yet tracery in white Outlines each plant, each tree and crumpled vine, Incredibly the knave, in deep remorse, Had sought to make amends with swift recourse To artistry and eloquent design. The garden bloom is dead but in the pod Are seeds for future sowing in the sun -- (The magic gifts with which all-knowing God Has rescued Beauty from oblivion,) And so we raise enraptured lips to sing For well we know will come another spring! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD |
