BEYOND UNDERSTANDING, by MARION WALLEY First Line: A little boy just half-past three Last Line: "but, he's in so many pieces." Subject(s): God | ||||||||
A little boy just half-past three, On a sunny day in May, Asked his mother childishly, "Where is God today?" The mother, quite confused As to what to do or say, Tried so hard to explain to him In a very simple way. "He's in the flowers and grass," she said. "He's part of the birds and trees, He makes the sun to shine so bright. He's the keeper of the bees. "He makes the raindrops patter down, He makes the waters flow; He's part of everything, and all The things we love below." The little child, so innocent, Listened to every word she said, And when she had finished, Scratched his little head. Looking up so sweetly, His wonder never ceases, "Ma, I love God awful much, But, He's in so many pieces." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MOUNTAIN IS STRIPPED by DAVID IGNATOW AS CLOSE AS BREATHING by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 1 by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 13 by MARK JARMAN BIRTH-DUES by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE SILENT SHEPHERDS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTRA MORTEM: THE WOMAN by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
