THE CROSS OF LIGHT, by METTA ELAINE WALSH First Line: On the wooded heights of mount davidson Last Line: "in the cross of christ I glory." Subject(s): Cross, The | ||||||||
On the wooded heights of Mount Davidson, Stands the beautiful Cross of Light. Its arms are outstretched to enfold Sad and discouraged men, and To teach them to look up again. Like a beacon, its light Shines far out at sea, Renewing the faith of the weary wanderer Who, in seeing this transcendent vision Is led by its glorious effulgence, Back into the path of duty and of right, And away from the idols Before whom he may have bowed. Its sacred story lies deep in the hearts Of the faithful pilgrims Who, as they journey on Easter morn To the foot of the Cross, there To kneel to worship and to exalt the Risen King, Uplift their voices in celestial ecstasy And sing: "In The Cross Of Christ I Glory." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE SIGN OF THE CROSS by JOHN HENRY NEWMAN CRUCIFIXION TO THE WORLD BY THE CROSS OF CHRIST by ISAAC WATTS ON BEARING THE CROSS by JOHN BYROM THE CRUCIFIX by ADELBERT VON CHAMISSO EASTER by ANNA BUNSTON DE BARY HEAL MY HANDS! by ANNA BUNSTON DE BARY |
