TEMPLE GOLD, by EVELYN MABEL WATSON First Line: What shall I offer as temple gold, what shall I bring Last Line: As a gale, then my gift to him, is complete . . . For I offer my cross. Subject(s): Worship | ||||||||
What shall I offer as temple gold, what shall I bring, For all of this beauty so manifold has He given to me; The glitter of waters that shine from afar or a tanager wing, The murmurous forest, the glow of one star . . . all so lovely to see? Why, even this soul is part of His Peace And to me He offers love's living increase As bounties pile up and joys never cease . . . What marvels surround us as loved ones, full-souled, ardently cling And hold us to all the high pledges that are with a fine loyalty . . . So let me live on and ask no release, Accepting the bitter along with the sweet; His realms know no loss; His truth to sustain in my lonely retreat; and if troubles must toss As a gale, then my gift to Him, is complete . . . for I offer my cross. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN RUSSIAN CATHEDRAL by CLAUDE MCKAY LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON A STEEPLE ON THE HOUSE by ROBERT FROST MATE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ANSWER TO PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS by GEORGE SANTAYANA A MOTHER'S CHRONOLOGY by EVELYN MABEL WATSON INDIANS SELL THINGS ALONG OUR STREETS by EVELYN MABEL WATSON |
