FALLEN, by HELEN FIELD WATSON First Line: Another idol toppled from its place Last Line: Nor admire. Subject(s): Hope; Idols; Optimism | ||||||||
Another idol toppled from its place. It did not break, And, yet, its thunderous fall produced in me An ugly ache. I strove to raise it to its pedestal. It lay supine; No outward force, though strong, could reinstate This hope of mine. I gaze now as it lies, still beautiful, Beneath desire. ...... I love this idol. ...... which I cannot worship Nor admire. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SONNET by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SONNET: 9.
