THE AWAKENING, by BERNARD WELLAND First Line: I stand in endless space and see Last Line: The one clean drop has cleansed the well. Subject(s): Humanity | ||||||||
I stand in endless space and see The image of humanity. His ape-like hands; his brutal face, Devoid of symmetry and grace, Are lifted up to peaceful skies And understanding clears his eyes. For that one spark of Yahweh's will That lay once hidden, cold and still, Has flamed! and overpowered hell. The one clean drop has cleansed the well. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEVENS (VERSION 3): IN THE CLOSED IRIS OF CREATION by MARVIN BELL 11/10 AGAIN by LUCILLE CLIFTON BROTHERS: 5.
