MUSIC, by ORVILLE GOULD WHEELER First Line: I like the music even of my dreams Last Line: And softly usher in the gentle night. Subject(s): Music & Musicians | ||||||||
I like the music even of my dreams, When on my spirit Angels seem to play; And when the dawn awakes its purple gleams, How sweetly music greets the opening day! E'en sultry noon hath only pleasant toil, If songs the weary laborer rejoice: And round the heart melodious numbers coil, Whether of warbling bird or loved one's voice. To me 'tis sweetest when the sun declines And folds around him, loose, his robe of gold, And, lying on his gorgeous couch, resigns His realm, that stars may brief dominion hold: Music, to hush to rest the sleepy light And softly usher in the gentle night. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINER NOTES TO AN IMAGINARY PLAYLIST by TERRANCE HAYES VARIATIONS: 13 by CONRAD AIKEN BELIEVE, BELIEVE by BOB KAUFMAN ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES THE POWER OF MUSIC by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES PORTRAIT OF A MOTOR CAR by CARL SANDBURG |
