SOME OTHER DAY - BYE AND BYE, by EFFIE E. WHEELOCK First Line: Oh, the wonderful things we intend to do Last Line: Some other day -- bye and bye! Subject(s): Farewell; Parting | ||||||||
Oh, the wonderful things we intend to do Some other day -- bye and bye; And the calls of today go unheeded Though often we dream and sigh -- The cheering letters we hope to write, The kindly deeds we'll do The friendly calls we're going to make Some day -- when our dreams come true! Oh, how kind and thoughtful we hope to be Some other day -- bye and bye; Perhaps while dreaming we do not know Of the great need very nigh, Or we'd do it now, but we have no time We're busy as we can be -- Yet we're going to do it after awhile, Some other day -- don't you see? Yes, we'd do so much for the poor and sick Some other day -- bye and bye; But we're hindered now or we think we are Though our hopes and our aims are high. But alas and alack! dear friends of mine What's done must be done today For that is the only time we have And soon 'twill have slipped away. Oh, 'twere better to do a little today Than to dream of the bye and bye, Of the greater good that we hope to do 'Tis the effort that counts -- just try! Today is the only time we have Don't let it slip idly by, For we never can do the work of today Some other day -- bye and bye! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN STUDY #2 FOR B.B.L. by JUNE JORDAN WATCHING THE NEEDLEBOATS AT SAN SABBA by JAMES JOYCE SESTINA: TRAVEL NOTES by WELDON KEES IN A RESTAURANT by SARA TEASDALE AN ODE UPON A QUESTION WHETHER LOVE SHOULD CONTINUE FOREVER by EDWARD HERBERT |
